Whenever people talk about extravagant cars, BMW is such an iconic brand that it is almost impossible to be overlooked. The Bavarian auto manufacturer is often held in high regard along with other pioneers of the auto industry and with the 2018 BMW X8, the auto manufacturer has not failed to impress. According to the BMW marketing director who was speaking at the New York Motor Show, BMW wanted the X8 to “have its own identity” therefore we should expect little resemblance to its predecessors.
2018 BMW X8 – Fresh New Look Promised:
BMW claims that everything about the upcoming 2018 BMW X8 is designed to give the driver the best experience on a cruise. The exterior is made up of a blend of carbon fiber and other alloys to give the car a solid frame while at the same time reducing the overall weight of the car to boost the top speed. The improved front grille is designed to enhance air intake to allow the engine to breathe while in transit. Lighting is ample with LED headlights coupled with fog lights placed artfully in between the headlights and the down air intake grille.
The inside of the car features high-quality leather upholstery with the seats equipped with adjustment features for maximum comfort. The music player is backed by powerful speakers and an infotainment system that connects seamlessly with devices across multiple platforms via a USB port, iPod dock or wirelessly. More features you can expect are a navigation system, climate control, and an automatic air conditioning system.
2018 BMW X8 – Engine and Performance:
Though BMW has claimed that the exterior of the car bears little resemblance to the previous models in the series, they have freely admitted that the engine of the BMW X8 will be based heavily on the X7 engine though an improved version. The auto manufacturer has not officially released any information about the engine and performance but there are a few conclusions we can draw based on previous models and other rivals in the same class. The engine is expected to come in two varieties; a 6 cylinder, turbocharged engine which generates about 320 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque and a 4.4 liter, V8 engine which produces up to 445 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque.
Though BMW has not admitted to it, it is also possible that the 2018 BMW X8 could come in a diesel variation that is likely to be fed by a 3.0 liter inline-6 generating about 381 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque. Carbon dioxide emissions will be minimal with the diesel option.
2018 BMW X8 – Price and Expected Availability:
Again, the auto manufacturer has not released any official information about the exact release date or price but when it is released in 2017 as a 2018 model, the X8 can be expected to command prices starting from $60,000 going up to $90,000.
Despite rising fuel prices, the demand for medium to large SUVs has grown over the past couple of years. As you would probably expect, this means that the 2018 BMW X8 is going to be facing come stiff competition. Some of the cars that we can expect to rival the X8 are; Audi Q7, Infiniti QX80, Lexus LX570, Mercedes-Benz GL – class, Lincoln Navigator and such.
A 2018 BMW X8 has been rumored for a couple of years now but the manufacturer has never dared to build a car that is so distant from BMW`s core values. However, the demand for SUVs has forced BMW to venture out of their comfort zone and it looks like the decision just might pay off.
